What is a Consulting Agreement?
Consulting is a valuable complement to the coaching relationship. Consulting also has a distinctively different role than
Coaching. Although one role can complement the other, a coaching
relationship is primarily motivational and client-directed; whereas a consulting
relationship is more informational and consultant-directed. In coaching, clients are
the experts in their lives. In consulting, the consultant
is hired as the expert. Clients choose which relationship
works best for them with the possibility for choosing a combined
coaching/consulting relationship. To know more about a coaching
relationship, just click Services link for details.
Sharon’s consulting services are both on-site and accomplished
through the convenience of the telephone, email, and fax.
A consulting agreement is tailored to the needs and preferences
of the client within the consultant’s areas of expertise.
Sharon’s consulting services are available within all
three triads:
Lifeskills Development (Individuals, Families, Businesses, Organizations)
Wellness (Health-conscious
Consumers, Patients/Professionals)
Creative
Arts Development (Individuals, Businesses, Recreation/Academic
Programs)
Within the elements of a consulting agreement Sharon provides
an initial assessment of the objectives, goals, problems,
proposed plan, potential outcomes—including a midterm
progress report, final report, and one 3 or 6 month follow
up call session. Throughout the terms of agreement, Sharon
will offer relevant expertise, strategies, structures, and
methodologies toward recommending a workable plan/solution.
The consulting agreement will be based on a mutually agreed
fee schedule and for a specific time period depending upon
the needs of the clients and optimum time period for accomplish
the agreed objectives. Any requests for additional work or
changes to the terms of the original agreement will be considered
and implemented in writing. The client may also determine
whether further consulting is needed for a specified period
of time warranting a redesigned agreement, an automatic renewal,
or an appropriate referral.
Within a “consulting” relationship, clients are
encouraged to have a clear understanding of their reasons
and expectations for hiring a consultant, and that they are
willing to participate in proactive, honest dialogue and appropriate
brainstorming to insure the most positive outcomes. Clients
should also clearly state who they represent, whether themselves
personally, a private, or public entity. Clients will also
need to provide any relevant information and materials for
the mutual benefit toward completion of the consulting agreement.
The consulting relationship is a comprehensive process and
is designed to help the client focus on targeted problems,
determine goals and forward action, and to be fully engaged
in the process within the agreed parameters. This relationship
may involve the consultant providing expertise, advice and
recommendations on the creation/development of personal, professional
or business goals as well as a strategy/plan for achieving
those goals.
Although a consulting relationship may involve areas of the
client’s whole life, including work, finances, health,
relationships, education and recreation, consulting does not
treat mental disorders as defined by the American Psychiatric
Association. Consulting is not a substitute for coaching,
mentoring, counseling, psychotherapy, mental healthcare, or
substance abuse treatment; and the client agrees to not use
it in place of any form of therapy, mentoring, or coaching.
Professional referrals will be given when appropriate. Consulting
is not to be used in lieu of any professional advice outside
the consultant’s area of expertise. The client will
seek professional guidance for legal, medical, financial,
business, spiritual or other matters not within the consultant’s
area of expertise. Any decisions made by the client in these
areas are exclusively the client’s responsibility.
All information provided to the consultant will be held as
confidential unless the client states otherwise, in writing,
except as required by law, for a period of one year. However,
the client acknowledges and concedes that certain topics may
be anonymously shared with other consulting professionals
for training OR consultation purposes, preserving confidentiality.
The consultant agrees to not publish, disclose or otherwise
disseminate such information for one year without prior written
notification to the client.
